50 dual fuel trucks for Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s has order 50 dual fuel trucks from Clean Air Power for its UK distribution fleet.
The retailer already has 49 Clean Air Power Genesis-EDGE trucks and eight methane diesel installations following orders placed during 2012 and 2013. The dual fuel vehicles can save up to 25 per cent in carbon emissions. Sainsbury’s aims to reduce its depot to store transport CO2 emissions by 35 per cent by 2020 and achieve an absolute reduction of 50 per cent by 2030, against a 2005 baseline, despite the growth of its business. According to Nick Davies, Sainsbury’s head of transport operations, the retailer cut almost eight million kilometres of transport in three years to 2013. John Pettitt, chief executive of Clean Air Power said: “The demand we are seeing for our products is being driven by the increased supply of vehicles available to retrofit as a result of the high level of late Euro 5 vehicle purchases made at the end of 2013.”
