A1 opens its first parcel pick-up at a train station
Austria’s leading communications provider, together with its partners ÖBB, DPD and GLS, opened the first A1 parcel pick-up at a railway station in Baden. “It gives the local economy and, of course, the people of Baden, a very convenient and also time-saving opportunity to deposit or pick up their parcels,” explains Marcus Grausam, CEO A1.
The A1 parcel pick-up is accessible around the clock. Everyone can pick up their parcels when they have time. In addition, the two parcel service providers DPD and GLS also use the facility as an alternative delivery location if the recipient is not at the destination address.
“We want to make everyday life easier for our passengers. The fact that parcels and orders can now be picked up directly at the station saves time and trips,” explains Silvia Angelo, board member of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG.
Rainer Schwarz, DPD Managing Director explains: “For DPD Austria, this is another service for our customers, which they can use to pick up their parcel in passing by, around the clock. We also welcome this modern solution because it shows how easy it can be that several parcel service providers are represented in a joint A1 parcel station “.
Authorised signatory Eberhard Thiele, GLS District Sales Manager: “We are happy to participate in this project because the location of the parcel pick-ups directly at stations is very advantageous and they are open systems. This is both consumer-friendly and innovative. ”
The communication between parcel service providers and their customers is direct. The collection of these packages is free for customers. Individuals and companies can simply rent a compartment with the A1 Paket App and pay by credit card.
Shippers and recipients receive a QR code for opening the compartment directly, either in the A1 parcel app or via SMS and e-mail to non-registered customers. Until the end of this year, the compartments can be used free of charge, afterwards they will cost depending on the size, 1-4 euros per day.
“In the coming weeks, we will be launching more A1 parcel pick-ups at stations in Lower Austria, Styria and Carinthia. For our further rollout we are open for additional cooperation with parcel logistics companies, tradesmen and sender companies”, Marcus Grausam announces.
