Amazon set to open Wakefield delivery station

Silkwood Park, is adjacent to Junction 40 of the M1 motorway. PLP bought the 16 acre site from St James’s High Park last year and speculatively built two units, the 236,250ft2 now let to Amazon, and a 75,105ft2 unit. Joint letting agents on the scheme are Gent Visick and CBRE.

At the time of acquisition Matthew Fitton, Development Director at PLP said: “The proximity of the site to Junction 40 of the M1 motorway is likely to appeal to both national and regional businesses alike.”

Kerry-Anne Lawlor, Country Director for Amazon Logistics, said: “We are excited to invest in the Wakefield area with a new delivery station that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create new jobs for the talented workforce.”

The facility is expected to be fully operational this autumn and will serve customers based in the Wakefield area.

Similar to other Amazon set up’s around the UK, the delivery station is in close proximity to a larger sortation or regional distribution centre. In this case Amazon secured a pre-let AEW UK Investment Management and Panattoni’s 512,500ft2 Wakefield 515 warehouse earlier this summer on a five year lease.
