Asfinag issues new toll tariffs for trucks and busses in Austria

Austria: Toll tariffs for trucks and busses of more than 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight to be adjusted by 1.6 per cent from 1 January 2015 due to inflation

On January 1, the toll tariffs on Austria’s motorways and highways for trucks and busses are to be adjusted due to inflation by 1.6 per cent. This is based on the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP). A relevant decree has been sent for review yesterday, as Asfinag informs in a press release.

What will also be increased – from 15 to 20 per cent – is the legally prescribed toll surcharge on the A12 motorway (Inntal) at the national border between Kufstein and Innsbruck-Amras, which will be used to finance the Brenner Base Tunnel.

They were a purely customer-funded company. The revenue from tolls and vignette funded the preservation of the existing route network, expansion, the best possible service for the road users and measures for improving road safety, Asfinag announced.

By 2019, the company will invest EUR 1.5 billion to expand the second tunnel tubes, one for each direction. In 2015, Asfinag spends just over EUR 500 million to preserve and expand the motorways and expressways in Austria.
