Austria will have around 1,100 additional truck parking spaces

With around 1,100 additional parking spaces, Asfinag will continue to expand its service offering for truck traffic in 2019 and 2020. According to a press release, 400 additional truck parking spaces will be created this year, and 700 next year.

Almost half of the HGV rest facilities planned for 2019 are located in the Greater Vienna area. But important traffic routes such as the motorways A 1 West, A 2 South, A 4 East and the A 12 Inntal and A 13 Brenner will have additional modern truck parking spaces.

The Parndorf / Neusiedl facilities on the A 4 in Burgenland with more than 140 new positions (start of construction in March 2019) and an area on the A 21 in Alland Lower Austria with 57 spaces will already be in operation this year. In Styria on the A 2 motorway near St. Johann and in Upper Austria on the A 25 Wels motorway near Sinnersdorf Nord, almost 100 additional truck parking spaces are added.

Andreas Fromm, Managing Director of Asfinag Bau Management GmbH: “With our planned truck parking space expansion and appropriate infrastructure, we are creating a good basis for truck drivers to be able to comply with the statutory rest periods. This year and next year, we are investing a total of EUR 100 million in new rest stops and thus more road safety.”

In addition to the measures for truck traffic, also new parking spaces for cars will be created in 2019 and 2020. Existing facilities will be renovated and new facilities will be built with showers, toilets and safety equipment.
