AustriaSkills 2017 for young forwarders: the countdown is on

For the second time already, the profession of forwarding agents is represented by AustriaSkills as the only non-craft branch. It is a professional competition for staff under 25 years. The state championships are organised by the Austrian Economic Chamber together with the trade associations.

Committed young specialists will demonstrate their skills in the competition and solve practical problems within a total of 16 hours on three days. The topics include customer acquisition, transport processing and freight calculation for all four modes of transport.

“The particular challenge was to create transparent audits and guidelines,” says Guggi Deiser, Chairwoman of the forwarders’ group in the Upper Austrian Economic Chamber. “As opposed to crafts, there is no practical work piece for service providers, which the jury can examine.”

In addition to qualifying for European and worldwide competitions, the focus of the Austrian professional competition is on image care and the need for training measures for young people in the industry. The winner of the state championships, which will take place from 9th to 11th of November in Graz, will receive the award and a trip to Shanghai with accompaniment.

“This demonstrates once again the outstanding excellence of Austrian freight forwarders – both regarding their services and the apprenticeships,” adds Chairman Alfred Schneckenreither. “And this beyond our borders: Sarah Ruckenstuhl (20, DHL Freight) represents Austria for the first time at the WorldSkills 2017 in Abu Dhabi.”

Interested persons can apply until 31 July, or with their company at the respective specialist group in the federal state. The application should include a short motivation letter, personal data (name, address, contact details, company and date of birth) and the LAP and final certificates.
