Better rail link to Enns for the port of Koper

Austria has a high significance for the Slovenian seaport of Koper; continued improvement in the field of international rail transport

For the port of Koper, Austria is next to Hungary and Slovakia, the most important trading partner in Central European hinterland. In order to maintain this situation, the hinterland rail transport offer is being continually expanded and improved to between the Slovenian port and the economic centres in Austria.

The latest initiative concering Austria was announced by Dragomir Matic, President of the Management Board Luka Koper, on 11 November at a port event at the Natural History Museum in Vienna – the improvement of rail traffic on the route to and from Enns. This shall create a better connection to the economic region of Upper Austria, the manager said to more than 200 guests from Austrian shipping agencies, operators, freight forwarders, cargo railways and inland ports.

In 2013 the Koper universal port was passed by almost 5.6 million tonnes of goods coming from or going to locations in Austria, of which 120,000 TEU were containerized sea freight. The total volume at the container terminal was around 600,000 TEU and targets the mark of 680,000 TEU in the current year.
