CargoServ receives follow-up order for coal transportation

Since March CargoServ has been carrying thousands of tonnes of coal from Dürnrohr to the steel plant in Linz on behalf of voestalpine

After the closure of the Verbund power plant in Dürnrohr last year, voestalpine has purchased 50,000 tonnes of pit coal from the stock.

CargoServ was awarded with a concept for the transportation to Linz. „We had to organise a large number of railcars within a very short time, which is not an easy task, as most railcars are contracted on the long term. It is quite complex to rent such a large number on the short term,“ explains Christian Preuner, CargoServ sales management.

Finally we succeeded thanks to the good contacts CargoServ and LogServ’s railcar management, so the team was able to concentrate on its next task: meaning the organization of the transport between Linz and Dürnrohr and the planning of the entire process chain. Also the plant railway is involved, which is responsible for the trip from the train station in Linz until the coal is unloaded and return.

„Overall, we can realise the transports without inefficient empty trips. Together with the plant railway we ensure efficient and timely coal transportation since March,“ says Christian Preuner. The current follow-up order of voestalpine for the transport of another 35,000 tonnes of coal proves that the good work is also bearing fruit.

Cargo Service GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ). The private railway company performs cargo transport on public railway infrastructure. Currently 4 million tonnes of raw materials and finished products are transported per year.
