Cathay Pacific opens Hong Kong cargo terminal
Cathay Pacific has officially opened its new cargo terminal at Hong Kong International Airport.
Operations at the HK$5.9 billion facility have been ramping up over the past few months and it is now fully operational.
Chief executive John Slosar said: „“The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is one of the world’s biggest, and also most sophisticated, and will help to sustain Hong Kong’s position as a preferred air cargo hub in the region. We believe the combination of this new terminal, our growing fleet and the professionalism of Hong Kong’s logistics community will help to provide a flexible and dynamic logistics solution for Hong Kong’s airfreight industry, and this is very important given the growing competition from other hubs around the region.“
The new terminal has an annual handling capacity of 2.6 million tonnes and will help boost the competitiveness of the Hong Kong. Around 1,800 jobs have been created to support the operation in achieving unparalleled efficiency and service innovation.
Guest of honour at the opening was the honourable Leung Chun-ying, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Cathay Pacific Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific Airways Limited. The Company was formed in January 2008 and awarded a 20-year franchise by Airport Authority Hong Kong, to design, build and operate the cargo terminal.
