Construction starts on Barnsley spec shed

GMI Construction Group is to start the construction of a 125,000 sq ft speculative warehouse in Barnsley, South Yorkshire after securing a £5.7 million mandate from Rula Developments.

The development will be finished to a high specification and include 12m eaves, a 50m yard, 12 dock level loading doors, two ground level loading doors, 23 HGV spaces, 80 car parking spaces, fitted office accommodation and up to 1MVA power supply

The site was recently acquired by Bramall Properties and when completed, the unit is being marketed to let or for sale by joint agents Knight Frank and Colliers International.

Speaking about the instruction Lee Powell GMI Divisional Managing Director said: “GMI continues to make great strides in terms of securing projects in the industrial/distribution sector. This project represents the sixth logistics/industrial contract we have either completed or been awarded so far during 2020 totalling approximately 850,000 sq. ft.”

Ben Ward, Managing Director, Rula Developments, said: “We are excited to be involved in a development which will satisfy a demand for modern industrial and logistics space along the M1.”

Maple 125 will be built on Maple Road in the Tankersley area of Barnsley. The site benefits from immediate access to the M1 Motorway at Junction 36, approximately 1 mile to the East. The M18, A1 (M) and M62 are also easily accessible.

The scheme is also being supported by Barnsley Council through its Enterprising Barnsley team.
