DB Schenker and Vestas open 5,000 sq m logistics facility in Leipzig

DB Schenker and Vestas, the global market leader for wind turbines, have opened an approximately 5,000 sq m logistics facility for heavy-duty components near Leipzig, Germany as extension to their existing 10,000 sq m European spare parts hub.

"The new logistics facility has set the stage to guarantee Vestas fast and efficient spare part and service logistics – from the smallest screw to massive gearboxes and generators," says Michael A. Kluger, Member of the Management Board of Schenker Deutschland AG responsible for Contract Logistics/SCM.

The new facility gives DB Schenker over 15,000 sq m for planning, managing and monitoring the complex spare part, component and tool logistics for the wind power expert Vestas. The building, which stands opposite the existing logistics complex, was designed specifically for handling sensitive heavy-duty components for wind turbines.

DB Schenker has operated the central European spare parts warehouse for Vestas since 2008; providing urgently needed spare parts, components, tools and personal protection equipment daily for performing repairs and maintenance on over 7,900 wind turbines in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.
