DB Schenker links road and rail with new Czech facility

With the establishment of a new logistics centre in Brno, DB Schenker has linked up road and rail transportation services in the Czech Republic.

The 8,000 m2 terminal, which went into operation a few days ago, is the first DB Schenker Railport in the country.

The 6,300 m2 logistics hall is equipped with the latest technology, and the remaining 1,700 m2 will be used for transhipping cargo.

The facility in Brno-Slatina has its own rail siding, which is provided with an 85 metre covered ramp.

Located at the interface of the road network and the pan-European rail corridor, the facility will be used as a transport hub for shipments to and from the Balkans.

DB Schenker has been offering regular services to the Balkan countries for the past eleven years with its PowerRailer trains. The new Brno terminal will make rail transport an even more economical alternative for industry and trade in South Moravia.

Services offered include both block train services and intermodal solutions with appropriate warehousing concepts.

The activities of Schenker’s Czech organisation in Brno were previously organised from four different locations within the urban area. The new facility combines all activities at one location, except the trade fair freight forwarding activities – which will remain on the exhibition grounds.
