Developer appointed for 2.3 million sq ft warehouse scheme in Suffolk

Jaynic has been appointed development manager and signed a 15-year agreement for a 2.3 million sq ft industrial and logistics scheme in Stowmarket, Suffolk.

Known as Gateway 14, the 156-acre green field site is adjacent to junction 50 on the A14 – the main road route from Felixstowe to the Midlands.

The scheme, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mid Suffolk District Council, is expected to provide up to 2.3 million sq ft of business, logistics and commercial accommodation over the next 10-15 years, with the first buildings being available in 2021/2. A planning application will be submitted by the end of 2020, to enable a phased development on the 156-acre site.

It is intended that the main infrastructure will commence by Spring 2021 so that occupation can start in early 2022.
The masterplan layout is still being developed, however the site could accommodate logistics buildings up to 1,000,000 sq ft, with roadside uses alongside the A14 frontage, and headquarters office/R&D campus style buildings.

Sir Christopher Haworth, chairman of Gateway 14 said: “This is a very significant development for Suffolk. Its position on the A14, on a key transport route, will meet the demand for warehousing and logistics in the county and provide modern workspace for smaller businesses.
