DHL expands in Penang

DHL has expanded the freight management operations of its Global Forwarding arm in Penang to provide customers with value-added services in one of Malaysia’s fastest-growing states.

Key to this is a newly opened integrated one-stop facility at Penang’s new central cargo hub, Kompleks Kargo Udara Kedua, better known as KLAS.

Located on the east side of Penang airport, the facility combines airfreight export, import, warehousing and cross-border road freight operations – all under a single roof.

In keeping up with strong growth in its Penang business, DHL Global Forwarding has invested more than RM1 million in KLAS, its fourth facility in Penang, thereby expanding its operational footprint by 20% to 50,000 sq.ft.

The fully integrated KLAS facility comprises a built-up area of 8,000 sq.ft, of which 6,000 sq.ft is dedicated to warehousing and operations, and the rest to offices.

The one-stop integrated facility means simpler, more efficient services with turnaround time reduced by up to 33% and cargo idle time cut from six hours to two.

DHL Global Forwarding’s operations in Penang now include four processing facilities – three on Penang island (including KLAS) and one ocean freight office on mainland Penang. With the KLAS facility, customers will avoid certain costs, such as re-docking, towing and gate-opening charges, and will also benefit from lower import terminal charges and the consolidation of cross-border road freight under one roof.
