DHL invests in new air freight hub in Brussels

Investment of EUR 114 million to strengthen Belgian trade connections and create around 200 new jobs with DHL Express by 2020
DHL, leading international express services provider, will invest in the construction of a state-of-the-art hub at Brussels Airport. This will further strengthen the position of Brussels within the DHL network, as well as Belgian trade connections and export possibilities. The EUR 114 million investment into a 5,000 m² office complex and a 31,500 m² sorting centre will triple capacity from 12,000 to 39,500 shipments per hour.

Today, DHL employs more than 4,000 people in Belgium, including 1,000 employees at the Brussels Hub. By 2020, DHL expects to create 200 additional jobs through this investment.

The original Brussels facility was set up in 1985 as a regional hub. In the last five years, the site has enjoyed solid double-digit volume growth. Due to its central location in Europe, the Brussels Hub is increasingly being used as an international and transit hub. By modernising the sorting technologies DHL responds to expected further growth in international express shipments.
