DHL launches new Nhava Sheva – LA direct LCL service

DHL has announced the launch of its new direct LCL service from Nhava Sheva in India to Los Angeles in the US.

Operated by DHL’s in-house carrier Danmar Lines, the new service will reduce transit time between the two ports to 26 days.

Container traffic at India’s major ports surged 21.5% in April compared with the same month last year, driven by a strong turnaround in the country’s foreign trade.

As India’s largest port, Nhava Sheva handles nearly 60% of the country’s total containerised cargo. Ranked among the top thirty ports in the world, Nhava Sheva handled more than four million TEU in 2007-2008.

Along with DHL’s recent launch of an LCL consolidation weekly service from Cochin to Colombo, this new service further boosts the company’s operations in India and strengthens its network and ocean freight service offerings,

DHL currently operates the world’s largest LCL network, handling almost two million cubic metres of LCL freight a year via 45,000 point-pairs.
