DHL offers eco-friendly road freight services

DHL Freight now offers two new environmentally-friendly products, with CO2 emissions reporting for all transport services in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Customers commissioning groupage (LTL), part-truckload (PTL) and full-truckload (FTL) services in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa can request CO2 emission reports detailing the carbon footprint of their shipments for each route.

DHL provides more than just a report; it also offers the option to offset carbon emissions created during transport through certified external climate protection programs.

The calculation method follows principles from internationally recognised standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol from the World Resources Institute and the CO2 and the reporting norms for transport shipment methods negotiated by the World Economic Forum.

DHL customers can request a monthly, quarterly or yearly report detailing their carbon footprint for each route during the requested time period.

Based on the CO2 report, customers can then opt to compensate for their carbon emissions through certified external conservation programs, including biomass power plants in India, wind parks in China, hydropower plants in Brazil or landfill gas plants in Turkey. Each year, the international auditing agency Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) reviews and certifies the carbon impact of GoGreen shipments as well as the amount of emissions reduced and offset through this special service. This is done in alignment with ISO 14064.

Deutsche Post DHL was the world’s first logistics company to offer carbon neutral shipping services for its customers, and, as part of its sustainable business and corporate responsibility efforts, the company continues to invest in the improvement of CO2 neutral products.
