DHL pulls out of China’s domestic express market

According to Reuters, DHL-Sinotrans International has sold its entire domestic courier business, Beijing Sinotrans Express Co, to Uni-top – a small Chinese delivery company.

DHL-Sinotrans is Deutsche Post’s 50:50 joint venture with China’s Sinotrans Air Transportation Development Co.
Reuters reports that the decision to withdraw from its money-losing domestic delivery business will enable the company to focus on the lucrative international segment in China – a region in which DHL alone has invested more than US$1.56 billion over the past decade.

DHL declined to comment.
