Engel centralising its spare parts logistics with cargo-partner
Engel Austria is a global manufacturer of injection molding machines and related automation equipment headquartered in Schwertberg, Austria. For its spare parts supply in Europe and worldwide, the company has centralised the corresponding logistics and thus made them more efficient. cargo-partner’s newly built iLogistics Center near Vienna Airport offers the ideal conditions for this. Since June, it has been replacing the previous storage at Engel’s three Austrian production sites.
The relocation of spare parts logistics to a central location in the immediate vicinity of an important delivery hub will allow for more attractive pick-up times on the part of the transport providers, as well as later order placement. Consignments that previously came from different factories can now be consolidated more efficiently, resulting in a more competitive cost structure. Reducing commuter traffic also provides greater independence from any service errors and delays. The time gained will be used for the benefit of Engel’s customers so that a higher level of service can be achieved.
The requirements of Engel include UV and dust-protected storage of small parts, pallets as well as long and heavy goods. In addition, weather-protected loading and unloading must be guaranteed via sides and rear. cargo-partner’s iLogistics Center in Fischamend offers extensive shelving technology including a handrail system, wide and narrow aisle shelving, cantilever rack system, lean lift and drawer cabinets.
Thanks to modern insulation and soil quality, as well as airtight locks on the truck docks, the warehouse is protected against the ingress of dust and dirt. Humidity is measured at regular intervals and is kept constant at a maximum of 70 per cent. In addition, the innovative timber design of the bearing enables cost-effective temperature control between 15 ° C and 26 ° C (+/- 2 ° C). The entire facility is alarm-protected and video-monitored. Fast and efficient information exchange is ensured by 20 interfaces between cargo-partner’s WMS (Warehouse Management System) and Engel’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Exactly one year after the ground-breaking ceremony on June 1, 2017, the cargo-partner iLogistics Center in Fischamend was put into operation. On a total area of 12,250 m², the logistics facility offers 24,500 pallet spaces and a small parts warehouse with 32,000 KLT containers. The award-winning, wood-based construction enables cost-effective temperature control, constant humidity, low operating costs and significant savings in CO₂ emissions. A total of 4,200 m³ of wood was installed in this innovative project – equivalent to CO₂ savings of 4,200 tonnes.
