First station of Rhenus Freight Logistics in Africa

New branch in Morocco’s coastal city of Tangier puts its focus on import/export traffic to Morocco and warehouse logistics services

In early April this year the Rhenus Group has opened an office in Tangier. The location in the Moroccan coastal city is the first one of the Freight Logistics unit on the African continent. Rhenus’ own employees now organise transport services from and to Morocco and warehousing solutions within the North African country for the customers.

„Morocco is generally adopting a leading position in North Africa, and Tangiers in particular has become a major corporate hub. In the city, where many multinational companies have started setting up locations there since recently. For this reason, it was logical to open our office in Tangier, and thus respond to the demand of our customers,“ says Lluis Folch, Managing Director of Rhenus Logistics SARL in Morocco.

Since 2008 Rhenus Tetrans, the Spanish company, has been operating in Morocco. Thanks to the positive development of these activities and the potential of trading with and via Morocco, Rhenus was able to deepen its commitment now by setting up its own location in this kingdom.

In the initial stage Rhenus will concentrate its activity on the development of transport solutions for land transport and air/sea freight, with Tangier – thanks to its favourable geographical location – serving as a major hub for a variety of goods flows in the region.

The services offered include among others a door-to-door service within Morocco, involving intermodal transport via the ports of Tanger-Med, Casablanca, Agadir and Nador, as well as groupage lines and storage services. In addition, Rhenus can handle for example customs formalities for its customers, transport hazardous and heavy cargo, and take over confectioning and picking tasks in contract logistics.
