Hapag-Lloyd and CSAV are coming closer

Container shipping companies Hapag-Lloyd and CSAV have signed a memorandum of understanding for planned merger; Next phase with due diligence begins now

The talks between Hapag-Lloyd and CSAV about merging their container liner shipping activities are entering the next stage. Both companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which is not binding. “As the next step, the due diligence will take place, after which a binding contract could follow”, Hapag-Lloyd announces in a notice to the press.

Stock-listed CSAV is deemed one of the oldest shipping companies in the world. Turnover amounted to about EUR 2.5 billion in 2013. Hapag-Lloyd has 7,000 employees at 300 locations worldwide moving more than 5 million TEU annually. In the first six months of 2013 the company achieved turnover of EUR 3.3 billion; adjusted EBITDA was EUR 13.5 million.
