IMS takes over majority of Intercontainer Ibèrica S.A.

Container operator IMS extends operating range to Spain and Portugal through further transaction

Following the late takeover of the Baltic Rail trains operating between Koper and Vienna v. v., IMS continues to expand in Europe. With effect from June 27, 2013 the container operator took over the majority of Intercontainer Ibèrica S.A. The shares were taken from Interconainer-Interfrigo s.a. (in liquidation)

"With this step, we come closer to our goal to be present as a full service provider across Europe", Wolfgang Tomassovich, CEO of IMS, commented the takeover. Intercontainer Ibèrica currently operates train connections within Spain, from Spain to Portugal, and offers a wide range of rail-based services for intermodal transport, and in Spain nationwide local deliveries, customs clearance, etc.

Intercontainer Ibèrica, in Madrid, has been established in the Spanish and Portuguese market since 1998 as a neutral container operator, serving domestic and international carriers and transport agents. "Despite the difficult economic environment, we expect the acquisition to yield synergies with our existing products," said Tomassovich. “An extension of the transports to France, Belgium and also in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland are being reviewed at the moment”, he adds.

IMS was founded in 1993 as private container operator. Together with worldwide partners the full service operator provides all services associated with multimodal transport. The company based in Vienna has about 70 employees handling 147,000 TEU last year, generating turnover of about EUR 47 million. The company operates locations in Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Switzerland, and has global partners for intermodal transport services.
