Industry leaders set to speak at IntraLogisteX

A host of industry leaders are set to speak at the IntraLogisteX exhibition which takes place in Coventry in February.

Seminar sessions will cover key issues facing logistics professionals including: last mile delivery, boosting order picking performance, the challenge of Brexit, intelligent data; returns strategies, energy efficiency, and automation and safety.

Here are just some of the sessions:

The benefits of being energy efficient

Speaker: Greg Elmes, business development manager, Luxonic.

Having worked in the lighting industry for a long time, Elmes has built up a wealth of knowledge which can only be learned from real world experience. His first employment in the lighting sector came over 23 years ago, on the shop floor of a lighting manufacturer, producing louvres for many companies throughout the industry.

After many years of working his way up the ladder from machine operator to product designer, Elmes finally settled into a sales role, where his product knowledge has aided him in assisting many clients to rejuvenate their business premises and save energy costs on a scale they wouldn’t have thought possible. In more recent times Greg has honed his skill set to concentrate within the industrial and logistics market.

Enhancing order picking performance through optimised organisation and without investement

Speaker: Marc Mignolet, founder and president, MDB.

Prior to founding MDB-SCS, Mignolet has been a high level executive in supply chain management. For more than 20 years he worked in major international companies such as IKEA and REXEL. Within these companies, he served in Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, France and USA.

Breaking issue: How to deal with Brexit in Supply Chain

Speaker: Peter Ward, chief executive, UK Warehousing Association.

Peter has over 30 years’ experience in international transport, logistics and supply chain management; and is recognised as a principal of authority in global supply chains and logistics based on achievements at director level with some of the world’s leading global logistics providers.

A Graduate of the Institute of Export and Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Peter’s career started in the export shipping department of Courtaulds plc, before joining his family’s freight forwarding company, D H Ward (Shipping) Ltd, where he became managing director. In 1994 he masterminded the Company’s merger with American-owned Fritz Companies, which under his leadership became a top-five forwarder in Europe prior to acquisition by UPS in 2001. More recently Peter was Director Europe of P&O Nedlloyd Logistics, and Commercial Director at DP World London Gateway prior to joining UKWA as Chief Executive in January 2015.

Peter has significant practical experience of international process design and network optimisation throughout Europe, Asia and North America; designing and delivering complex supply chain solutions in different logistics and client organisations worldwide, with an impressive history of multiple client cost and service benefits across various industry sectors.

Intelligent data – Smart Logistics

Speaker: Martin Robinson, founder, Transfaction.

Founder of Transfaction, Martin Robinson resigned Nestle in late 2010 fired with an ambition to improve logistics & transport efficiency, by using mathematical techniques that he had discovered during his time in Strategic Supply Chain for Nestle Purina – Europe and in his time, leading a strategic programme to improve the sourcing of logistics & transport services, for Nestle – Zone Europe.

Mathematical techniques are at the core of Transfaction, and our aim is to develop a position as the leader in the emerging field of logistics informetrics; namely, leveraging information to make better decisions.

FSDF’s new national food guide

Speaker: Chris Sturman, chief executive, FSDF.

Christopher Sturman is Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Food Storage and Distribution Federation, an appointment held since May 2009.

His forty five year career in the logistics industry from early days with TDG, NFC/BRC Southern, Ross Youngs and Wincanton with wide experience of operational, tactical and strategic food supply chain and logistics management, followed by roles as Managing Director of West Kent Cold Storage and Chief Executive of Linq Alliance. Chris also has undertaken high profile consultancy assignments across the supply chain and logistics sector in UK, Europe, Central Asia and USA.

Chris previously served as a Board member of FSDF. He is a Fellow and past member of the Council and Board, of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK, and is a Transaid Ambassador.

The returns strategy for retailers

Speaker: Philip Courtney, general manager national distribution centre and 3rd party operations, – John Lewis Partnership

Phil Courtney is a supply chain leader who works in the operations directorate within the John Lewis Partnership. After spending the first part of his career managing retail branches for Boots The Chemist he moved into logistics more than twenty years ago. Phil has been instrumental in supply chain transformations across Boots, Currys/DSGi and more recently the John Lewis Partnership.

In his current role he has responsibility for the John Lewis 2-man fulfilment site in Milton Keynes and the 3rd Party Service Providers Clipper Logistics and the iForce Group. Leading 3rd party service providers and ensuring they meet the expectations associated with the John Lewis brand is aided by having an in-house operation as a reference point.

Courtney views, the complexity of Omni-channel operations as necessitating a mindset that never accepts the status quo, but constantly aims to exceed customer expectations. The execution by engaged Partner’s and 3rd Party colleagues across the operation is what make the challenge all the more worthwhile and rewarding.

Kris Boulton is an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in working for BT/Toyota and Enersys.

Twin track approach to automation and the impact on safety

Speaker: Peter Harvey, chief executive, Fork Lift Truck Association.

A sought-after speaker at safety conferences and seminars, Peter Harvey became CEO of the Fork Lift Truck Association, in 2012.

Foremost among his achievements has been the impact achieved by the FLTA in the area of safety. On his watch the size, scope and status of the National Fork Truck Safety Conference has grown exponentially – being named “Conference of the Year” in the 2015 Best Practice Awards.

Forklift Trucks will have a starring role at the IntraLogisteX exhibition in February with leading players Linde, Jungheinrich, Flexi and BYD all taking stands.
