Lübeck Port: 20 years of paper handling at Terminal Schlutup

Terminal Schlutup in Lübeck Port offers customised solutions for the logistics demand of the Swedish paper and cellulose industry

Notable anniversary for the Lübeck Port Authority (LHG). On 6 June 1994 the company inaugurated the new terminal for paper handling in Schlutup., which celebrated its 20-year anniversary in 2014. In order to streamline procedures customers from Sweden were actively involved in the planning phase for the terminal.

After a construction period of one-and-a-half years Terminal Schlutup initially offered 30.000 m² of warehousing space which was expanded to 80.000 m²  in the course of the next years to meet increasing demands. Besides there are 20.000 m² of roofed open depot areas. The whole terminal area comprises 260.000 m², which is operated by about 145 employees.

„In Schlutup we have the advantage of a terminal which has been customised for the demands of the paper industry. The employees possess a high level of product know-how  and identify with the goods they handle and their manufacturers“, says Jörn Grage, general manager for SCA Logistics. SCA is the leading quality manufacturer of paper – and forest products worldwide.

During the twenty years of their operation a total of 20 million tons of paper and 2 million tons of cellulose were cleared via the two jetties and about 865.000 trucks and wagons were handled. Besides paper and forest products, especially containers and general cargo are the main types of goods here.

Lübeck Port Authority mbH operates the largest German Baltic Sea port. High-frequency maritime transports to the Baltic Sea region are offered at its four port terminals. The cargo units are bundled and connected to the hinterland via efficient systems. LHG is a reliable partner for the paper and automotive industry.
