More shuttles from Rotterdam to Austria

By signing a Letter of Intent the Rail Cargo Group and Port of Rotterdam Authority intensify their cooperation

Rail Cargo Group and The Port of Rotterdam have joined forces to offer customers more rail services between Austria / Central Eastern Europe and Rotterdam.

Rail Cargo Group will shift their existing intermodal product from Wels to Linz as of October and in addition will increase frequency from 3 to 4 weekly round trips by the end of the year from the deepsea terminals at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. End of next year the new Rail Cargo Group terminal in Vienna will be opened allowing for additional connections and antennas from this terminal to other destinations in Eastern Europe.

“It is important to us that the rail connections between the port of Rotterdam and our clients in the hinterland offer a high service level in terms of quality. We achieve this through collaborations with strong partners such as Rail Cargo. This allows us to strengthen Rotterdam’s rail product within Europe and to provide our clients the option of a modal shift,” states Allard Castelein, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

“The new Deep Sea Terminals in Rotterdam will increase the importance of the Port of Rotterdam for the Austrian area as well as the Central Eastern European corridor. With the high-frequent shuttle, the hinterland of Rotterdam to Austria and beyond will be expanded,” states Rail Cargo Group board member Erik Regter.
