News from Boeing

GCAS orders two 747-8 freighters; 747-8 freighter completes transatlantic biofuel flight. GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) has agreed to purchase two Boeing 747-8 freighters.
The introduction of the 747-8F into its fleet will broaden GECAS’s cargo portfolio with a high demand freighter that has a well-established operator base. The 747-8F offers cargo airlines the lowest operating costs and best economics of any freighter aircraft, whilst providing enhanced environmental performance. It is more than eighteen feet longer than the 747-400F, offering 16% more revenue cargo volume compared than its predecessor.

In other news, the Boeing 747-8 Freighter landed at Paris Le Bourget Airport at 17h35 on Monday after completing the first transatlantic flight of a large commercial airplane powered on all engines by a sustainable aviation jet fuel.

All four of the aircraft’s General Electric GEnx-2B engines were powered by a blend of 15% camelina-based biofuel mixed with 85% traditional kerosene Jet A fuel.
No changes were made to the aircraft, its engines or operating procedures prior to departure. Normal flight parameters were followed and approved in advance by the US Federal Aviation Administration.

This aircraft is on static display at the Paris Air Show, and will leave this evening and fly to Cargolux headquarters in Luxembourg for a two-day visit. Cargolux is scheduled to take delivery of the first 747-8 Freighter to enter service this summer.
