News from DHL

DHL has further enhanced the security of its global shipping network with the recent certification of its Los Angeles and San Francisco gateways by the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA).

DHL Express has now achieved full TAPA certification for all of its key North American facilities, which includes its US Express hub in Cincinnati, gateways in Miami and New York City, and its principal gateway in Toronto, Canada.

DHL now has twenty TAPA-certified sites in North America, including those operated by DHL Global Forwarding and EXEL Supply Chain.

The company also has TAPA-certified sites in Colombia and Brazil, and certifications are in the process for other key sites in Latin America.

DHL Global Forwarding was one of the first companies to achieve TAPA certification, and all seven of its gateways in the US and five additional facilities are TAPA-certified, as well as its facility in Bogota, Colombia.

DHL Supply Chain manages a TAPA-certified site in Houston and two in Brazil.

In other news, DHL Express has expanded its global capabilities through new next-day intercontinental flights between the US and the Middle East and Asia-Pacific to the US to meet increased demand on these trade lanes.

Operated by Polar Air Cargo, the new dedicated Boeing 747-400F aircraft will connect the DHL Cincinnati hub with the Bahrain and Hong Kong hubs, providing additional cargo capacity of 80 tons.

The direct US – Bahrain flight will reduce delivery times by as much as one full day for shipments from the US to Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The new 747-400F aircraft will connect from Bahrain to Hong Kong, enabling a later pick-up time out of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta for overnight service to North America on the flight’s final leg from Hong Kong to Cincinnati.

DHL continues to expand its infrastructure in Asia Pacific with the construction of a new $175 million North Asia Hub situated at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.  The 57,000 m² hub will be built on a total land area of 88,000 m², and is scheduled to open in early 2012.

All DHL Express‘ major facilities in the US are now TAPA-certified; and DHL has launched new direct flights between the US and the Middle East & Asia.
