News from Kuehne + Nagel

Kuehne + Nagel expands its partnership with Metso in China; manages frozen food for Italian retailer Agorà.

Metso Minerals (Tianjin) International Trade Co, a global supplier of technology and services for the construction and mining industries, has awarded Kuehne + Nagel a contract for the planning, implementation and management of a new distribution centre in Shanghai.

Kuehne + Nagel has been providing international forwarding services for the Finnish mining and construction expert since 2006, and took over the management of Metso Minerals‘ Tianjin spare parts distribution centre in 2008.

To further streamline its domestic distribution processes in China, Metso decided to open an additional distribution centre in Shanghai.

Based on the successful operation in Tianjin, Kuehne + Nagel has established a dedicated 7,000 m² facility with a monthly inbound handling capacity of more than 1,600 tons for Metso in Shanghai’s Baoshan district. At the new site, Kuehne + Nagel provides a range of services, including warehousing, value-added services like batch management and picking & packing, as well as container loading for sea freight exports.

Agorà Network contract

Milan-based Agorà Network has awarded a six-year contract to Kuehne + Nagel to provide frozen warehousing and distribution operations for the retailer’s stores across northern Italy.

Kuehne + Nagel has been supporting the retailer’s supply chain optimisation since 2007, managing a 45,000 m² ambient foods warehouse for Agorà in Brignano Gera d’Adda, east of Milan.

According to the new contract, Kuehne + Nagel is in charge of frozen foods inbound services, storage and order preparation at its 12,000 m² multi-user, temperature-controlled (-28°C) facility in Casorate Primo (PV). It also encompasses road distribution to serve Agorà’s more than 200 points of sales throughout Northern Italy.

The distribution centre will handle approximately 1.6 million cases a year, with more than 700 references.

The warehouse operations are supported by the latest radio frequency and voice picking technology, and Kuehne + Nagel’s dedicated team regularly checks the temperature controlling systems to ensure that all goods are stored at the correct temperature.
