OOCL increases rates for Asia – Europe trade

OOCL has announced it is to increase its rates for westbound trade on the Asia-Europe route.

With effect from March 1, 2012, the freight rate for traffic on this route will be increased by USD 800 per TEU.

The freight rate increase covers shipments from the Far East (except Japan) to North Europe, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

A company statement said: "The ocean freight rate for the Asia Europe Trade continues to be below the required level to cover basic operating costs. Considering that the current level is unsustainable for the long term, we are announcing a revenue restoration program in order to maintain a viable service level."
