Pacer Distribution Services Revs Up Yamaha Motor Corporation’s Supply Chain

Under New Multi-Year Contract, Pacer Provides a Range of Services for Yamaha Motor Corporation’s Motorsports and Watercraft Divisions

Pacer Distribution Services, a global logistics service provider, announced today that it has expanded its business with Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., signing a multi-year agreement to provide a range of transportation and distribution services to Yamaha’s Motorsports and Watercraft divisions. Vehicles manufactured by these divisions include top selling Yamaha motorcycles, ATV’s, Side-by-Side’s and, Waverunner® personal watercraft products, along with other on and off-road vehicles.

Yamaha’s products manufactured in Asia are shipped each month to the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Under the new contract, Pacer Distribution Services picks up the containers and drays them to its large warehouse in Lynwood, Calif. At the warehouse, Pacer performs a variety of value-added services for Yamaha and then manages distribution of the vehicles to Yamaha’s extensive network ofWest Coast dealers and other regionally located distribution centers.

Under a long-standing relationship between the two companies, Pacer has historically provided U.S. rail service to Yamaha Motor, a fact cited by
Jason Schweizer, division manager for Yamaha Motors, when commenting on the new contract. "We had an existing relationship in place and Pacer is a sizable, publically traded company, which provides some transparency to its operational fortitude," says Mr. Schweizer. Additionally, "Pacer’s solid corporate structure and capital flexibility enables it to expand with Yamaha’s growth and service the company’s changing needs," Mr. Schweizer states.

Pacer Distribution Services president,
Mike Stark, underscores Mr. Schweizer’s comments. "We are located near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach so we can provide Yamaha with quick access to its products," Mr. Stark says. "After signing this deal, we transferred more than 100 trailers fromYamaha’s former warehouse and received an additional 70 containers of ocean freight over a weekend and were fully operational the following Monday."

Mr. Stark says that Pacer is one of the most flexible 3PLs and can expand and contract as Yamaha’srequirements change. He also notes that Yamaha has long been one of Pacer’s key strategic business partners "and we work frequently with them to develop customizable solutions to expand their business." As one example, Mr. Stark cites an account management process that Pacer recently implemented with Yamaha. "We look forward to helping Yamaha Motor Corp. continue to grow its business," he says.
