Packsize unveils packaging machine developed exclusively for Walmart

Packaging-on-demand provider Packsize has unveiled the Ultra5, a right-sized, on-demand box machine built exclusively for Walmart.

The Ultra5 was built around the technology behind Packsize’s X5 solution that the company revealed in February this year. Like the X5, the Ultra5 can produce up to 600 boxes per hour.

Packsize says that the Ultra5 contributes to ‘less waste and fewer emissions’. By ensuring that boxes are the perfect size, the solution eliminates the need for void-fill materials, which are often a source of waste in supply chains.

It claims that right-sized packaging can enable retailers to fit up to 33% more boxes on freight and delivery vehicles, which ultimately allows more orders to reach customers daily.

Packsize Chief Executive Rod Gallaway said: “[Walmart has] embraced cutting-edge and innovative technology, like our Ultra5 machine, and taken bold steps to streamline their fulfillment processes.”

The Ultra5 machine has already been installed in multiple facilities including the first of Walmart’s next generation fulfilment centres.

Prathibha Rajashekhar, Senior Vice President of Innovation and Automation at Walmart USA, said: “By working with Packsize to develop the Ultra5 machine, we created an innovative packaging solution that tailors each box to the items we are shipping to customers, eliminating unnecessary waste and improving the unboxing experience once the package arrives.”

Packsize claims that the solution has given Walmart the ability to have orders packed, labeled, and ready to ship in as little as 30 minutes.

Packsize (Stand i1102) will be at IntraLogisteX on 28-29 March 2023 at the NEC Birmingham. For more information, visit www.intralogistex.co.uk.
