Panalpina sees growing demand for efficient logistics chains

Supply Chain Analytics: Targeted analysis of logistics chains gains importance for a growing number of Panalpina clients:

Capgemini Consulting, Penn State University, Heidrick & Struggles and Panalpina, announced the findings of the 16th Annual Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Study at the beginning of this week. The study examined the global market for outsourced logistics. The report reveals that already 51 per cent of 3PL specialists – including the Panalpina group – provide supply chain consultancy services. However, only 11per cent of companies are using supply chain consultancy services. The full report as well as the joint media release with the key findings is available at www.3plstudy.com.

Third-party logistics providers (3PLs) such as Panalpina are increasingly applying targeted Supply Chain Analytics methodologies. Sophisticated assessment tools and benchmarking applications are used to compare the efficiency of individual supply chain performances to solutions of competitors. The objective is to provide customers with value-added services and strategic guidance in regards to supply chain design and execution.

Supply Chain Analytics assesses efficiency of supply chains and identifies inefficiencies in supply chain configurations with the ultimate objective of improving their end-to-end performance in terms of operational, financial as well as managerial aspects. “Supply Chain Analytics can be regarded as ‘virtual images’ of supply chain structures in order to describe the efficiency or state of a supply chain,” explains Peter Karel, Corporate Supply Chain Analytics, Panalpina. “It is all about «cutting out» process waste and reducing costs.”
