Panattoni to build 7 million ft2 plus logistics park in Swindon

Specialist industrial and logistics developer Panattoni is set to submit plans for a 7.2 million ft2 logistics park for the soon to be closed Honda plant site in Swindon.

The developer bought the site earlier this year from the car manufacturer. Honda announced the closure of the plant in 2019 following a global restructure. This particular development is thought to be the developers largest single park in the UK to date.

At the end of production on 30 July 2021, Honda will immediately commence the decommissioning of the Swindon site. The site is anticipated to be legally handed over in Spring 2022, and once the necessary consents have been obtained, Panattoni will start regeneration and redevelopment shortly thereafter.

Panattoni has submitted a request vie Environmental specialist Barton Willmore for an environmental impact assessment scoping opinion on plans to build new factories and warehouses there earlier this month outlining that it sought to redevelop the 370-acre site to provide 7.2 million ft2 of warehouse and industrial space.

James Watson, Development Director for Panattoni, said: “Panattoni is committing to invest over £700 million into the site to attract new employers and provide for existing businesses looking to expand in Swindon. We will be working very closely with Honda and Swindon Borough Council, along with the community and its representatives to regenerate the site.”

The company is seeking to provide a scheme with the highest environmental credentials. All warehouses developed will seek BREEAM Excellent.

It is thought there will be range of units  for both the local, regional and national occupiers with eaves heights up to 35m.

Panattoni is currently developing a 2.3m ft2 warehouse for Amazon on the Symmerty Park site in the town.
