Papp Italia becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Dachser Food Logistics

With retrospective effect as per 1 January 2017, Dachser acquires all shares in the Italian food logistics company Papp Italia from the German shareholder Balthasar Papp Internationale Lebensmittellogistik KG, Munich. Through this acquisition the international logistics provider becomes the sole owner of the company headquartered in Pradelle di Nogarole Rocca, northern Italy.

“Papp Italia has a lot of know-how and experience as a food logistics specialist and a differentiated contract logistics portfolio. The retail supply via the cross-docking platform and its high proportion of direct deliveries ensures streamlined handling and unbeatable transit times,” says Alfred Miller, Managing Director of Dachser Food Logistics. “On this sound basis, we will make our service even more attractive for European food producers and retailers. We will continue to invest heavily in human resources and IT infrastructure this year. ”

The current management board of Papp Italia will continue to manage the company. Balthasar Papp, the former co-partner, withdraws from the warehouse and groupage business in Italy and its management board concentrates on special interests, including the company’s digitisation.

Since 2010, Dachser and Papp Italia have been cooperating in temperature-controlled food logistics between Germany and Italy. In mid-2012, Dachser acquired a 50 percent stake in the company. In addition to ten other European food logistics companies, the two partners were also founders of the European Food Network in 2013, which is in terms of area the largest temperature-controlled distribution network for food in Europe.

Papp Italia was founded in 1997, employs 170 persons including the commercial sector, and is specialising in warehousing and distribution of refrigerated food in Italy. From its headquarters and its central hub near Verona, the company regularly serves over 1,200 recipients throughout Italy. The company handles the majority of deliveries to retailers directly on its own; for smaller lots Papp Italia uses a widely branched network of correspondents.

In 2016 Papp Italia handled 220,000 tonnes of food and achieved an annual turnover of EUR 37 million. The facility near Verona includes a 17,000 m² cold store with various temperature zones and 41 bays.
