Port of Rotterdam Authority to acquire PortShuttle

In 2015, the PortShuttle started as a neutral rail solution connecting all container terminals in the port of Rotterdam. Five times a week, the train completes a tour along the Rail Service Center Rotterdam (RSC) and all deep-sea container terminals. At these terminals, containers can be loaded and unloaded, allowing an efficient exchange of containers between terminals. As a result, the PortShuttle lowers the costs for the exchange of containers up to 20 per cent while at the same time offering a more environmentally-friendly alternative for the transport of containers by road.

Despite the strong growth, the PortShuttle has experienced in recent months, its future was uncertain in the short term. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has committed itself to stimulating rail freight transport to and from the port. To ensure the continuity of service, the Port of Rotterdam Authority has acquired PortShuttle Rotterdam B.V. and has committed itself to stimulating rail freight transport to and from the port.

In principle, the take-over will not affect the clients in any way. The terms and rates will remain the same. The PortShuttle service package also includes the so-called ‘PortShuttle 2’. This is a collaboration with the GVT Group of Logistics, which runs six times a week between GVT in Tilburg and the terminals on the Maasvlakte. This service will also be continued.
