Pos Indonesia introduces robotic sorting system from Libiao Robotics
Chinese mobile robotics specialist Libiao Robotics has partnered with Pos Indonesia (Pos Ind) to provide a custom robotic sortation solution.
The company has provided robots in orange rather than its standard yellow, with the deployment intended to help Pos Indonesia improve its order fulfilment capacity and efficiency throughout site operations.
Libiao Robotics develops, manufactures and implement autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) as part of its automated sorting product offering.

Pos Indonesia is the state-owned body responsible for providing postal services across Indonesia, and operates 11 regional divisions.
The public body implemented a robotic sorting system and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) at Pos Bloc Surabaya, with the system launch being attended by Indonesia’s Minister of State-owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir.
Thohir, who commented on the promise of the robotic sorting machines, said: “This is a manifestation of the transformation that Pos Indonesia is carrying out. I hope that the inauguration of the brand and logo will be a good momentum for this company to continue to grow, exploiting existing business potential by maximising current technological advances.”
Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi, President Director of Pos Ind, said that the use of robotic sorting machines and RFID was carried out to improve customer experiences, especially faster and safer product delivery.
Djoemadi added: “The use of robotic sorting machines and RFID is part of our work programme, namely automation and modernisation of business processes. We will continue the process transformation to make work more efficient and effective.
“Digitalisation, automation and robotics will become a competitive and comparative advantage for Pos Ind.”
The robotic sorting machine used at Pos Ind is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI), sensors and computing technology to help the system learn and interpret its environment.
The number of robots at SPP Surabaya is around 40; the units can reportedly sort 3,000 packages per hour.
The RFID system is an object identification system consisting of a reader and tags. The reader broadcasts radio waves that reflect tag information within its range. RFID tag information is unique.
Plans are in place to implement the robotic sorting machines at SPP Jakarta. RFID technology itself is currently being used at SPP Surabaya and SPP Jakarta. Pos Ind hopes that RFID will be used in all SPPs and KCUs on the island of Java in 2024.
The postal body is currently working towards transforming its processes, with key focuses including automating jobs and activities related to shipment processing that were previously carried out manually.
