Rail Cargo Group remains ‘mobile’ on the Arlberg

Asfinag road tunnel between Tyrol and Vorarlberg to be blocked for seven months from 21 April – Rail Cargo Group offers an alternative on the rail

During the blockade from 21 April 2015 the Austrian motorway corporation Asfinag fits Austria’s longest road tunnel with state-of-the-art security technology. The almost parallel rail tunnel of the ÖBB remains in operation rail traffic. The Rail Cargo Group will offer sufficient capacity for freight transport.

In this context the ÖBB cargo division confirms in a press release their willingness to support the shipping industry in their logistics activities during this long block. A total of ten trains per day will be available between the two freight terminals in Hall in Tyrol and Wolfurt, Vorarlberg. If required a train can carry up to 1,600 tonnes of total weight over the Arlberg.

The aim of the Rail Cargo Group is to call attention to this alternative transport solution, which has a sustained future perspective. With their rail logistic solutions the Rail Cargo Group offers alternative rail solutions for unaccompanied combined transport as well as for wagonload traffic during the tunnel block.
