Record year 2008 for Wiener Hafen Group

Wiener Hafen proved as Middle-European logistics hub

Wiener Hafen Group (Port of Vienna) is looking back on the very best year in its history. Turnover as well as profit reached peak values in 2008. “Compared to the previous year turnover rose 7 per cent to EUR 48 million. The consolidated result of the operational business activities showed an increase of 24 per cent to EUR 10.2 million ”, as the Managind Directors Walter Edinger, Rudolf Mutz and Friedrich Pacejka announced yesterday.

Goods throughput at the logistics centre Wiener Hafen totalled to 12 million tons in 2008. 5.5 million tons threreof were handled by the Wiener Hafen Group, which employs 247 persons. Container business achieved an increase of 4 per cent to 335,000 TEU. The automotive terminal showed a stable level of handled volumes totalling to 60,000 units. The general cargo warehouse, which covers a total surface of 60,000 square metres was used to 80 per cent of its capacity. The raw materials warehouse, which provides a capacity for 36,000 tons of bulk cargo was utilised to 100 per cent of its capacity. In 2008 1,500 cargo vessels (minus 150 units) called at the group’s harbours in Albern, Freudenau and Lobau.
