Rise in total volume of water-borne transport in the port of Linz

Despite ice blockages, the port of Linz reached an overall volume of 716,769 tonnes in the 2017 financial year, an increase of 2.4 per cent over the previous period. Nonetheless, total operating revenue of 2.77 million tonnes in the 2017 financial year was 55,205 tonnes, or 1.9 per cent, slightly below the previous year’s turnover level (2.83 million tonnes), they announced at a press conference.

In the past fiscal year, mineral oil companies increased their share transport by water, so that the transshipment at the tanker port increased by 7 per cent from 248,833 tonnes to 266,130 tonnes. In container handling, the previous year’s level of 223,935 TEU was missed by 6.7 per cent, at 208,916 TEU. In the 2017 financial year, 697 ships called the ports of Linz AG (trading port and tank terminal), 38 less than in the previous year.

With a turnover of EUR 44.7 million, Linz AG Logistik (consisting of the Port division of Linz Service GmbH and the Austrian Donaulager GmbH) in the 2017 financial year (October 2016 to September 2017) increased compared to sales in the 2016 financial year of EUR 42.4 million, an increase of EUR 2.3 million or 5.4 per cent.

In contrast, earnings before taxes (EBT) of EUR 3.68 million in the reporting period were EUR 0.86 million or 18.8 per cent lower than in the previous year (EUR 4.54 million). This decrease is mainly due to the implementation of the project “Neuland”.

In total, around EUR 7 million was invested in the 2017 financial year. (2016: EUR 2.2 million). The investments included, among other things, the purchase of 18 new special refrigerated semitrailers.

An investment volume of around EUR 22 million is planned for the 2018 financial year. The focus is on the completion of Warehouse II-7, the start of the construction of the underground car park, parking deck and Ingate and the “Project Neuland”.
