Safmarine reports on effects of Transnet strike

Safmarine says that, according to an informal update, the strike aimed at crippling Transnet’s operations could continue next week.

Durban: Terminal is completely shut down.

Cape Town: One gang working, at gate only. No vessels are being worked.

Port Elizabeth: One gang working and operations continue on the OACL feeder Frontier @ twelve moves per hour.

SAECS:

Lars Maersk – 104A/104B

  • Vessel remains alongside in Durban
  • Expect her to slide to Safmarine Mafadi position
  • Currently working to identify a vessel to cover missing s/b sailing in Lars Maersk position ex North Europe

Safmarine Mafadi / 104A

  • Transnet confirms that all Cape Town imports can be discharged in Port Elizabeth
  • Cape Town customers will have the option to take release of their cargo in Port Elizabeth
  • Vessel will NOT load any Europe exports
  • Vessel will proceed to Durban where she will await a berth

AMEX:

MSC Atlantic/N025

  • Vessel will bypass Cape Town and proceed directly to Newark
  • CPT Export cargo to be re-planned for next AMEX Safmarine Ngami

MSC LEVINA/S836

  • Vessel will OMIT Cape Town first call
  • Vessel’s rotation will change, as she will proceed directly to Durban, to await a berth, then call Port Elizabeth on her northbound voyage

SAFARI:

Maersk Dryden 1006/1007

  • Vessel is currently at anchor in Durban
  • Vessel did not complete discharge operations and is currently returning to berth where she will wait until operations resume

FEW1

Thekla Schulte /1006

  • Vessel will omit Richards Bay
  • Empties will positioned into Richards Bay for export cargo
  • Final contingency plan for Thekla exports to be communicated at a later stage

MESA

Maersk Bratan/1008

  • Vessel is waiting outside DUR for normal rotation, expect that schedule be slid if strike continues

ASAS

Alancia Maua

  • Durban import cargo will be discharged in Port Elizabeth
  • Durban export cargo will be transferred to the next ASAS Monte Sarmiento 013E in the interim

OACL:

Frontier/080A

Operations expected to be completed by today
