Safmarine reports substantial growth in 2008


Safmarine Group from South Africa continues to modernise fleet 

The South African shipping group Safmarine represented itself in good shape in the year 2008. Compared to 2007 transported volumes rose 14 per cent to 731,000 FFE (40’-equivalents). Turnover was improved by 28 per cent. Profit before financial items amounted to USD 185 million (2007: USD 131 million). This was announced by the company’s Management.
 

Safmarine is an autonomously acting division of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group and specialises in container transportations from and to Africa. The shipping line operates 41 container vessels and 21 MPVs (Multi Purpose Vessels). Four more container vessels and four MPVs will be added to the fleet before the end of 2011.
