Schachinger’s LT1 was awarded State Prize for Architecture

Award N° 6 for Schachinger Logistik: Central Europe’s largest logistics hall made of wood is a milestone of the ecological trend reversal

„The combination of innovative and energy-efficient solutions and the highest architectural quality makes an important contribution to a liveable Austria“, said Andrä Rupprechter, Federal Minister on 13 January at the award ceremony in the Radiokulturhaus in Vienna.

74 sustainable buildings had been submitted for the fourth time at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BMLFUW), which tendered the State Prize for Architecture and Sustainability. Twelve of them have been nominated for the State Prize.

Schachinger Logistics together with the architects of Poppe & Prehal received one of the five top awards. Architect Andreas Prehal who accepted the award, is still enthusiastic about the intensive phase of planning and construction of the LT1: „You just need the right builder to bring visions to life.“

Max Schachinger, master of works, was pleased with the attention paid to the LT1, to motivate also other companies to create innovative and sustainable architecture concepts: „Building Europe’s probably most sustainable warehouse, we have set a shining example in the building of logistics halls. More than 1,000 (international) visitors show that it has become time for a technological and creative impetus in the building of logistics halls. In addition, the current “art in construction projects” will raise the already exceptional job quality even further.

For the award of the LT1 especially the consistent use of wood and other organic materials, the high design quality and the exemplary combination of ecology, aesthetics and economy had been decisive. The implementation of the LT1 basic idea, building a pioneering logistics facility with unprecedented consistency in the fields of ecological building and energy efficiency, was well received by the high-profile, international jury chaired by Univ.-Prof. Roland Gnaiger.

In his remarks Minister Andrä Rupprechter praised that great things can result from the combination of high demands regarding economy, ecology and job quality: „All award-winners proved that sophisticated architecture, resource-saving design, energy efficiency and a style consistent with environment and nature are no contradictions. “

Given the only minimally higher building costs and high future savings in operational costs, the Leuchtturm 1 (lighthouse) means also a big financial gain for Schachinger Logistik. The LT1 combines economy, ecology and social issues – an entirely successful project – and has been prized no less than six times now.
