Second gantry crane increases capacity at Kombi Terminal Burghausen

About 2.5 years after the official opening of the freight terminal in Burghausen, investors and operators draw a positive summary. The reason for this is the high capacity utilization and demand, which made the realization of the second expansion stage necessary.

On December 14, 2017, the completion of the second expansion stage with church blessing and the start of operation of the second gantry crane, was officially completed. As a result of the extension of the terminal, up to 60,000 loading units can now be handled at the Burghausen site each year. For the economy and traffic in the chemical triangle of Upper Bavaria, this means a significant easing of the strain on the roads by shifting container transports to rail.

From the beginning of the year 2018, a further connection will be added: three times a week, in addition to the previous connections, there will be the possibility of having load units from or to Ludwigshafen transported by rail from or to Burghausen.

As a public hub for combined road / rail transport, the Kombi Terminal Burghausen is an important location factor for the manufacturing companies in Burghausen, the ChemDelta Bavaria and the neighbouring regions. In total, EUR 37 million were invested for the project, thereof 21.6 million from subsidies from the Federal Railway Authority.
