Strong export spurs DPD Austria’s business

Strong international shipping lets increase DPD Austria’s parcel volume and turnover figures in its anniversary year 2013

Also in the 25th year of their existence DPD Austria continues to steer a growth course. In 2013 Austria’s leading private parcel service company has carried about 39 million parcels, 2.1 per cent more than in the same period last year. Turnover improved by 3.6 per cent to EUR 166.6 million. “International shipping has performed particularly well“, the company states in a press release.

During the reporting period DPD Austria has moved about 157,000 daily shipments across Austria on average. Import rose 4.6 per cent, export rose 6.3 per cent. “Like last year, most export shipments – 71 per cent – went to Germany in 2013,“ says Rainer Schwarz, managing director. “However, also other countries are gaining importance, France above all, showing a 17 per cent increase in volume year-on-year.“

From the manager’s point of view the 2013 volume development confirms the strategy of continuously expanding DPD Austria’s capacity and service offering. Thus, last year e.g. the main transhipment centre in Hörsching near Linz was expanded and equipped with state-of-the-art technology and software. On peak days this facility sees up to 120,000 parcels passing the conveyor belts. In 2013 DPD introduced the new service for flexible delivery “FlexZustellung“ in Austria, enabling the recipient to decide on the day of delivery and informing the recipients about the time window of the delivery.

DPD Austria (Direct Parcel Distribution) headquartered in Leopoldsdorf near Vienna is by its own account Austria’s leading private provider of national and international parcel distribution. In Austria the company has about 1,500 employees and a fleet of 900 vehicles.
