Sustainable smart factory projects awarded £14 million in funding

UK Research and Innovation has announced the 12 winners of its Sustainable Smart Factory competition, receiving a combined total of almost £14 million in funding for new sustainable technology in a range of sectors across the UK.

The competition is part of a £147 million investment in technology to improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainability in UK industry.

Chris Needham, Innovation Lead in the Made Smarter innovation challenge, said: “Effective digital technologies can have a substantial impact on the manufacturing sector, bringing outdated, inefficient and unproductive products and processes up the standards needed for a net zero industry of the future”.

He believes the investment can lead to serious improvements in different UK industries, adding: “The successful applicants clearly demonstrated real innovation and showed just how the right use of data and technology can make a significant difference to businesses. We now look forward to working alongside them to deliver successful outcomes”.
