TNT to build regional hub at Swindon

TNT is to build a specialist regional parcel hub at IDI Gazeley’s G.Park Swindon in Wiltshire.

Construction of the new 55,898 sq ft build-to-suit facility began at the start of January and is expected to take 24 weeks with the facility scheduled to become fully operational by the third quarter of 2015. The development will serve as a specialist regional parcel distribution hub for TNT’s expanding delivery business serving deliveries throughout Swindon and the South West.

Simon Harper, TNT’s director of operations, said: “Coupled with TNT’s £35 million investment in its fleet of vehicles, the new Swindon sortation centre will enable us to keep parcels destined for customers in the South West within the region, thereby cutting delivery times. Relieving some of the burden on our depots serving areas around Exeter, Bodmin, Bristol, Reading, Slough, Southampton and Byfleet, will enable TNT to increase our speed and efficiency. This will benefit local business and others around the UK because it enables us to efficiently pre-sort shipments going to our main sorting hubs at Kingsbury and Atherstone in the Midlands. Earlier sort times throughout the network mean earlier deliveries to our customers.”

The building will feature 47,717 sq ft of distribution space with the capacity to accommodate 62 delivery vehicles. It will also benefit from 104 car parking spaces, 6,154 sq ft of office space, security gatehouse, 50 metre truck court depth, 101 loading doors and 32 metre building depth.

Nigel Godfrey of IDI Gazeley said: “The continued rise of online retailing brings with it the growing requirement for new specialist logistics and distribution facilities for global customers such as TNT. In the past 18 months, we have delivered in excess of 3 million sq ft of sustainable logistics warehouse and distribution space at key sites throughout the UK for our customers.”

G.Park Swindon comprises of a 98-acre site within close proximity to junction 15 of the M4 motorway. It is capable of accommodating built-to-suit logistics warehouse from 50,000 up to 400,000 sq ft.
