Transport sector continues to grow workforce

A majority of transport sector employers are still looking to grow their workforces in the second quarter of 2014, according Manpower’s survey of employment prospects, with home deliveries driving recruitment.

However, the positive balance has slipped back slightly to +3 per cent, from +7 per cent in the first quarter.

The claim comes following ManpowerGroup’s recent Manpower Employment Outlook Survey results, where it asked 2,112 UK employers whether they intend to hire additional workers or reduce the size of their workforce in the upcoming quarter.

The survey revealed that employers in every single sector are reporting positive hiring plans.

„But while we’re not seeing the same levels of positivity going into the second quarter in the transport sector, it is still recruiting,“ said ManpowerGroup sector director for logistics, Simon Edwards.

„For example, we’re seeing strong demand for warehousing staff, lorry loader operatives, and Cat C and C+E drivers, which we’d expect to take off as the outlook in the construction sector improves.

„Home deliveries are also continuing to drive recruitment in the sector.“
