Würth Austria investing EUR 20 million to expand logistics building
Würth Austria, a specialist in the field of assembly and fastening materials, is bursting at the seams. The company has been based in Lower Austria for 19 years. Continuous business growth and increasing demands on productivity now require further expansion of the existing logistics center, which has already been extended several times in recent years. The opening is planned for autumn 2019.
The construction project is intended to set the course for the future at the Böheimkirchen site. Managing Director Alfred Wurmbrand: “This large additonal building for EUR 20 million is necessary to ensure the quality of our services in the future. Different processes are no longer efficient enough. In order to be able to handle the increasing throughput of more than 600,000 shipments per year, processes must be optimised. “
As part of the expansion, a photovoltaic system will be put into operation on the hall roofs, for which Würth will invest another EUR 650,000. The self-consumption system will produce around 700,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, covering about 85 per cent of the company’s energy consumption in Böheimkirchen.
Project Manager Stefan Gugerell: “The additional logistics building puts our energy management on a completely new footing. All of our 47 customer centers in Austria will be supplied with reusable boxes. This means 10,000 tonnes of cardboard needed less per year. This is a huge waste reduction, but the new technology will also save about 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. “
The new building gives the approximately 70 logistics employees in Böheimkirchen ergonomic workplaces and additional palletising robots. Lounges and a sanitary area are created for the supplying forwarders.
At the ground-breaking ceremony, also Vice Governor Stephan Pernkopf, Bezirkshauptmann Josef Kronister and Johann Hell, Mayor of Böheimkirchen, emphasised the great economic and social importance of Würth as a successful company and employer in the region.
Würth is a specialist in the trading of assembly and fastening materials for professional use.
