DB Schenker Rail trials electric vehicles

DB Schenker Rail is trialling an electric van with the aim of replacing part of its fleet with fully-electric vehicles.

The trial, in conjunction with Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, Nissan and Tevo, is underway at the company’s Toton depot where the emission and fuel savings of the vehicle are being recorded.

The van will be trialled at different depots to explore the possibility of replacing elements of the DB Schenker Rail UK fleet with fully electric vehicles.

* DB Schenker Rail UK, which operates more than 5,000 trains each week, recently launched a rail freight service from Teesport in Middlesbrough to Mossend and Grangemouth in Scotland in conjuction with PD Ports.

The service offers a full train with 40 containers to and from Scotland each day from Monday to Friday.
