First 14,000 TEU full-container vessel at Yang Ming

“YM Wish” gives Taiwan headquartered shipping line Yang Ming Marine Transport an edge in the highly competitive ultra-large vessel market

On April 16, a maiden voyage ceremony for “YM Wish”, Yang Ming’s first 14,000 TEU full-container vessel, was held at Kao Ming Container Terminal in Kaohsiung.  Five of 15 14,000-TEU vessels that Yang Ming charters from Seaspan Corp. will be delivered by CSBC Corp., Taiwan, in 2016. The deal will mark the first time that CSBC – Taiwan’s biggest shipbuilder – accepts an order to build vessels larger than 10,000 TEUs.

The new 14000 TEU container vessels will help upgrade YM’s fleet, because with lower operational costs and more efficient use of energy the new vessels will give Yang Ming an edge in the highly competitive ultra-large vessel market. Chairman Lu said that this is not only a fleet upgrade for Yang Ming, but helpful for Taiwan’s marine industry which is part of the free economic demonstration zone project, a key initiative for boosting Taiwan’s economy.

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (Yang Ming) was established on December 28, 1972. Today it operates a fleet of 95 vessels with a 5.05-million-D.W.T / operating capacity 410 thousand TEUS, of which container ships are the mains service force.
